The Chinese culture will celebrate their New Year on February 8th and traditionally an animal is associated and celebrated along with the holiday. This year, the mischievous monkey is in the spotlight and many brands have incorporated the image into their special editions honoring The Lunar New Year.

One luxury brand ditches the monkey completely and takes a unique and clever approach to celebrating the Chinese New Year. Dolce & Gabbana has unveiled their stunning Lunar New Year collection of dresses, accessories and of course, stylish footwear with no monkey to be found.

Instead, these D&G designs proudly display oranges and lemons among a solid red which is a traditional color for The Chinese New Year. The fruits do double duty in the symbolism department as the fruits are a mainstay in D&G’s home country of Italy and are representative of good fortune in Chinese culture.

From the D&G website:

The Chinese for orange (and tangerine) is 橙 (chéng /chnng/), which sounds the same as the Chinese for ‘success’ (成). One of the ways of writing tangerine (桔 jú /jyoo/) contains the Chinese character for luck (吉 jí /jee/).
