Although comparatively smaller, the luxury segment in India is showing a steady growth over the years. The buying capacity of people has increased tremendously. People are ready to shell out more money for luxury and pride. BMW or Mercedes are the first names that come to our mind when we hear of luxury cars. But nearly all car makers here offer nice models that fit in the luxury car category. They assemble cars locally thereby reducing their prices to a certain extent and this augments the sale figures. The German company BMW sells some very good sedans. The sixth generation BMW 3 series is now longer and larger with classic BMW features. It is powered by 2 four-cylinder turbo charged units through an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is available in many royal colours within an approximate price range of Rs 33-45 lakhs. BMW 5, 6 and 7 series are also offered here.
From the reputed house of Audi, we have Audi Q3, A4, A6, A8 and RS7. The top seller though is Audi Q3 with its enticing looks and innovative features. Audi India has re-launched its entry level Q3 S Edition at the price of Rs 24.37 lakhs. The fourth generation of Audi A4 with eight speed multitronic transmission is also making good sales in India. Their price ranges from Rs 28.30 lakhs to Rs 53.42 lakhs.
Mercedes Benz is also equally popular here with its C-Class, E-Class, S-Class and CLS Class. Of these, the beautiful Mercedes C- Class sedan stands right at top when it comes to their sales. It costs around Rs 32.6-41.8 lakhs in the country. The top of the line model has a 6.2 litre V8 engine and seven speed automatic transmission. The others are very costly and may go up to Rs 1 crore.
Jaguar, the Tata owned British luxury car maker is getting quite popular nowadays. Jagaur XF, thenew variant comprises of a 4-cylinder turbo engine coupled with an eight speed ZF self-shifting transmission. It carries a minimum price tag of Rs 48.30 lakhs. A pricier one is the 2.0 litre i4 petrol sedan Jaguar XJ with best-in-class features.
Some other foreign brands slowly growing in India currently are the Rolls Royce Phantom and Ghost, Porsche 911 coupe and Panamera, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Bentley Flying Spur and Mulsanne, Aston Martin Rapide S, Volvo S 80, Lamborghini Aventador. All these above mentioned names are more costly much due to their ‘luxury’ brand name. Volkswagen Beetle, Nissan Teana, Maruti Kizashi, Skoda Yeti, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are some cheaper luxury cars.
