It may have officially stopped after the end of prohibition, but one of the newest trends in nightlife is the Speakeasy – bars that are either very exclusive or very hard to find, that often serve incredible drinks and have amazing atmospheres for spending time with someone special. At evoJets, we often cater to travelers looking for privacy and an elite experience. What better combination of a private, elite experience can there be than a clandestine speakeasy?
It’s unlikely that you’re going to travel all around the world to visit a Speakeasy. But many of them are located in very popular cities for weekend getaways and fall travel, and for those that enjoy a little bit of exclusivity and mystery with their adventures, the speakeasies represent a nice little excursion during the evenings for you to enjoy.
The exclusive private jet charter service, evoJets has come up with 4 fantastic West Coast options:
4. Knee High Stocking Company – Seattle, WA
Though it may not be one of the most exclusive on the list (the website has the phone number and contact information right on it, and walk ins are welcome during off hours) it definitely qualifies as secretive. From the outside, you can often see those with their first appointments looking all around, walking by the inauspicious door that looks like nothing more than an apartment entrance. During off hours the place is quiet and romantic, but when it’s busy the place can be quite lively, with very friendly staff and delicious cocktails. Other speakeasies in Seattle include Tavern Law (a few miles from Knee High) and Bathtub Gin & Co.
3. Bourbon and Branch – San Francisco, CA
Through a door labeled Wilson and Wilson Private Detective Agency is Bourbon and Branch – a speakeasy in San Francisco, California that requires a password to enter, which most of the time you receive by filling out a form on their website and hoping for a response. The most exclusive of individuals can go further, to the speakeasy inside of the speakeasy – easily one of the most private drinking spots in Northern California. Other speakeasies include The Hideout at Dalva.
2. The Varnish – Los Angeles, CA
Hidden in the back of Cole’s in Downtown LA is Varnish, a low key speakeasy that is known for its excellent beverages. They accept no large groups and they refuse to accept reservations, which means that you and very few others have to try to find the door in order to enter. Los Angeles can be a loud place, so the Varnish gives you a nice escape. Other LA speakeasies include La Descarga and The Edison – excellent bars in their own right.
1. Noble Experiment – San Diego, CA
A little bit dark but with a lot of character, the Noble Experiment of San Diego is hidden in an alley, behind a wall of kegs. What makes Noble Experiment unique is that it only has alcohol from before prohibition, to make sure that the feel of the bar is as similar as possible to the prohibition style era. You also usually need a reservation to enter, since the bar fits very few, so be sure and text (619) 888-4713 and see when they are available. Other speakeasies in San Diego include Gaslamp and the aptly named “Prohibition.
