It is almost impossible to find a spa that truly offers something for everyone, but the BodyHoliday in the northern part of St. Lucia, does just that. Those who come for an intense work out can wake up to beach boot camp or participate in a mini triathlon or hike up the Pitons. More reflective types are welcome to spend their early mornings at a roof top yoga session and their afternoons enhancing their meditation techniques.
The resort is located on a spectacular stretch of the Caribbean and guests can take advantage of paddle boarding, water skiing or simply bobbing in the sea. Golf and tennis are also offered. Even better–the accommodations are luxurious and the service is impeccable.
For something a little special, the Ayurvedic Temple specialized in Ayurvedic treatments based on body type. Although I couldn’t pronounce it, I tried the Shirodhara—during which warm oil was poured over my third eye and then massaged into my scalp. It is meant to bring tranquility and deep relaxation and I can report that I did drift off several times.
Spas can be a tough sell for foodies, but when it comes to cuisine, the BodyHoliday gives guests the chance to focus as much on their holidays, as their bodies. The food was fantastic. Healthy choices were offered at breakfast with note cards explaining their healing properties. But pancakes, eggs benedict, and chocolate croissant were also served. Salads are abundant and it is easy to be healthy when line caught fish is freshly grilled to order. The resort’s “deli” serves smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices with therapeutic properties, but it also stocks cookie jars filled with chocolate chip cookies and local fudge. Since the clientele is largely from the U.K., desserts usually include a traditional pudding. A charming afternoon tea is served daily and wine and cocktails are also included.
It is almost impossible not become healthier after all the classes, water sports and locally-grown produce (even if you indulge in a dessert or a cocktail.) However, anyone who want to more seriously tackle a wellness issue is welcome to explore BodyScience. This particular program gives guests the chance to take their health, nutrition and fitness to the next level and includes a consult with the resort’s on-site doctor in its state of the art facility. BodyScience gives guests the chance to really enhance several important issues, such as healthy aging, weight management, and the ever-present issue of stress. Treatments have an Eastern focus, but also include high-tech options.
Since the choices are truly plentiful and the location is ideal, the BodyHoliday really does provide the ultimate experience for all types of wellness seekers.
